Our First #1 Hit

In an attempt to remember to "line up" the decimals when we use addition or subtraction, I took a gamble at writing a song. My very brave and cooperative class agreed to sing it on camera. Also, it is now stuck in our brains like glue! You may recognize the tune because it is set to the famous, "Row, Row Row Your Boat." We also fancied it up by singing in a round. Enjoy!

"Line, line, line me up.
Only when you add or subtract.
Decimals, decimals, decimals, decimals!
If it helps you, keep me stacked."

The 2nd Door to the Left

After spending entirely too long on Pinterest and Google searching for the perfect classroom theme, I just decided my theme would revolve around organization. I have never had the privilege of teaching all core subjects, so I wanted to give every subject its equal amount of space on the walls. This is what I came up with.

This is what our room looked like. (Before!)

This is the view as you walk in.
You can see my Elmo podium , our class library, and our Social Studies board.

I have 5 groups. The blue buckets function as mail boxes.
I place all materials for the day in the buckets so I don't waste time passing things out.

Another view of the Social Studies area. Also, our textbooks are located underneath.

This is our Math/Science board.
All boards change frequently depending on the particular subject we are studying.

This is the Art & Religion board. Also, I am still working on a better reading nook area, but there are a couple bean bags now. :)
This is the other side of the room. I have an assignment board with a homework reminder area. Also, I have an interactive "Body Systems" board. In the back, you can see the sink area. Have I mentioned how AWESOME each classroom is?!

This is the located on the outside of my room. This too will be changing frequently.

Here is my corner of the room. :) Feel free to replenish my flowers at any time!

The back wall!

Thanks for visiting our room!

Welcome Back!

Well, here we are! Tonight at 6:00pm, I will be welcoming all my parents and students back into the classroom. I truly have been working so diligently at finishing up all the finishing touches. Sadly, I still feel as though I could use another week, but I have negotiated with the "teacherzilla" inside of me and we have decided that once we add students, everything will be perfect!

I am so excited to be working with the group of women at St. Anthony's Catholic School. They are such a gifted group and their humility and service is such a testament to the level of respect and love here at school. This is going to be a great year!

See you all tonight at 6:00pm!

Let the countdown begin!

If one thing is for certain, it is that time stands still for no man.  With the school year starting in less than three weeks, I am feeling those "butterfly" flutters as I prepare my now quiet classroom.

This blog is an attempt to capture some of our treasured moments in the classroom and give you an opportunity to watch how we are growing and learning.

We would love to hear that you are checking in from time to time! The 2012 fifth grade class at St. Anthony's Catholic School will prove to be like none before it, and we can't wait to show you why!
