Long, "Messy" Division

Who doesn't LOVE long division? I'll tell you who. Just about every student who encounters any difficulty with it. In an attempt to jazz up long division and take away any fear factor it might have, I decided to make it a little messy. With this very cheap and easy idea, my students were more than excited to work as many problems as I could give them. Take a look at our pictures.(Warning! This is messy and requires a behavior talk before starting!)

They all said they looked like Mickey Mouse.

Natalie and Corbin are hard at work.

Cheese Kalise, Kevin, Madison, Arthur, and Vanessa!

Did I mention that this was messy?
Darren, Nathan, Samantha, and Luke are really into division!

I love Eric's expression! Also, Ellie, Corbin, and Natalie are so excited!

Kalise correctly worked this problem!
When they get the answer correct and I have checked their work, they just simply wipe it off and start on the next.

Go Arthur! He also worked this problem correctly!

Hello Mathematicians!

One of my personal goals for this school year is to build a class full of confident mathematicians. There is such a value in understanding how numbers relate to each other, how we use them EVERY single day, and how they can help us to learn life lessons.

There is no better feeling than working for a long time on a "hard" problem and then feeling so accomplished when you finally figure it out. We will all celebrate!

In line with our textbook and our daily lessons, I will continually be updated and adding assignments to your Real Math website.

Simply it is www.realmath.com. Your student log-in will be given to you the first week of school and you can log in any time to work on a current skill, play cool math games, and even have access to our textbook all online!

(Hint: The square root of negative one is "i". "i" is an imaginary number.)
